Malus tschonoskii - Tschonoskii Crab Apple Tree is possibly the best of the crab apples for autumn foliage colour. This strong, narrow growing, upright tree is ideal for planting in public areas where lateral space is restricted.

Height:     7 metres.

Width:     4 metres.

Growth rate:     Moderate.

Form:     Narrowly oval to pyramidal. Upright and open.

Foliage:  Malus tschonoskii - Tschonoskii Crab Apple Tree has dark green broadly ovate leaves with a grey, felty underside. The new growth is silvery-green.

Autumn colour:  Malus tschonoskii - Tschonoskii Crab Apple has rich purplish-orange to yellow.

Flowers:   White flowers with a slight pink tinge. Not showy. Rarely observed in Australia.

Fruit:   Fairly sparse, brownish-yellow fruits up to 25 mm in diameter (if formed). Rare.

Tolerances:   Malus tschonoskii - Tschonoskii Crab Apple Tree is adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions but prefers a moist, well drained, acidic soil. Overseas reports indicate good resistance to apple scab and powdery mildew.

Landscape use:  Good specimen tree for small gardens, parks and avenues.

Transport to these locations will be a minimum of $250.
