Juglan's regia - English Walnut - Royal Walnut

A slow growing, deciduous tree, Juglan's regia -  English Walnut - Royal Walnut  has smooth grey bark that grooves with age.  It is in flower in June, and the seeds ripen in October. The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and requires well-drained soil.The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It cannot grow in the shade. Juglan's regia -  English Walnut - Royal Walnut requires moist soil.

Height:  20 metres.

Width:   10 metres.

Growth rate:  Slow

Form:  Rounded, spreading form.

Foliage: Mid-green pinnate dark green leaves.

Autumn colour:  Golden yellow.

Flower:  The male flowers open late in spring and are bourne in large, drooping 5-10cm catkins. The female catkins are on the same tree but are small, green and upright.

Fruit: These are oval, glossy green fruits that fall away to reveal a hard shell which encloses the wrinkled yellow kernel.

Tolerances:  Juglan's regia -  English Walnut - Royal Walnut  prefers deep fertile soils that are slightly acidic-neutral (pH of 6-7). 

Landscape use:  Great shade tree.

Transport to these locations will be a minimum of $250.
