Corymbia citriodora - Lemon Scented Gum

You can’t beat the delicious lemon fragrance that one of these brings to the garden.  The fragrance is particularly strong after rain.  The Lemon Scented Gum has a smooth white bark and an open crown.  It is adorned with prolific creamy white feathery flowers in winter, which is a great addition to brighten up the garden at this time of year. The flowers attract the native birds and the lance shape grey green leaves are also used as a food source for Koalas. Given that they have a big root system they do need to be located away from houses.  In an avenue planting they create a stunning drive on large properties, or can be used as a single specimen tree in a large garden.  They perform best in full sun and well drained soils and will thrive in Victoria, NSW and QLD.  It is a fast growing tree that will reach 20m as it matures, but definitely a tree worth considering for larger urban and acerage properties.
