Magnolia grandiflora MGTIG - Greenback Magnolia

A recent introduction to Australia of Magnolia grandiflora noted for the smooth, hairless backs to the mature foliage that, combined with a dense, uniform, upright growth habit makes an excellent specimen or screen for use in gardens, parks and other public open space. Magnolia grandiflora MGTIG  - Greenback Magnolia is often selected for its foliage, texture and habit. 

Height:  8 -10 metres. (Tends not to reach its maximum height in an urban environment.)

Width: 5 metres.

Growth rate: Moderate.

Form: Narrowly pyramidal, broadening with age. Shows excellent uniformity. Tightly branched. 

Foliage: Magnolia grandiflora MGTIG  - Greenback Magnolia  is evergreen. Glossy, waxy and dark green above, pale green beneath on older growth, densely arranged on the branches. Maintains an excellent, glossy finish all year. Older leaves turn yellow to brown and shed in autumn and again in spring as new growth begins. 

Flowers:  Greenback Magnolia has occasional, large, creamy white flowers with a lemony fragrance are produced during the summer months at the branch tips. 

Tolerances: Easily withstand drought, heat, humidity and pollution.  Greenback Magnolia will adapt to a variety of sites once established. Grows best in full sun with moist, acid, well drained soil. Will even tolerate partial shade.

Landscape use: Magnolia grandiflora MGTIG  - Greenback Magnolia  is a great specimen or screen tree, in gardens, parks and open spaces.

Transport to these locations will be a minimum of $250.
