Acer palmatum - Shishi gashira Dwarf Japanese Maple Tree Lions Head

Acer palmatum - Shishi gashira Dwarf Japanese Maple Tree Lions Head - After 125 years in cultivation, the famous Lion's Head Maple (shi shi GA shi ra) is still acknowledged as one of the best and most unique Japanese maple cultivars. It is a compact, slow-growing shrub, usually to around 2m, though taller trees are possible with good cultivation. By 'compact', we mean that the leaves are closely packed on the twigs, and the twigs closely-packed on the branches. This leads to a tufted look: clusters of leaves alternating with leafless areas of branch. The leaves themselves of the Acer palmatum - Shishi gashira Dwarf Japanese Maple Tree Lions Head are small, deep green, and crinkled, thickly textured. No wimpy sunburning here.

Height: 2 metres

Width: 2 metres

Form: Compact tight small tree.

Growth rate: Slow.

Foliage: Deep green, crinkled leaves

Autumn leaves: Deep reds and oranges completely changing the visual effect.

Tolerance: Prefers moise, well-drained soil and likes acid or neutral soil

Landscape use:  This is a good tree for the landscape especially for the japanes garden,  container, or bonsai. The name Acer palmatum - Shishi gashira Dwarf Japanese Maple Tree Lions Head is a refererence to a mythical Japanese lion.
