Dai Dai Maru - Persimmon Fruit Tree

Dai Dai Maru - Persimmon Fruit Tree are attractive small trees that suit both large and small gardens. Even if you don’t like eating persimmon fruit, the trees are worth growing for their fabulous autumn colour. The leaves turn glorious shades of red, orange and gold before dropping in autumn, often leaving the fruit hanging decoratively on the bare branches.  Dai Dai Maru is an astringent variety, which means they can only be eaten when they’re ripe and very soft.

Height: 8-12  metres. (Tends not to reach its maximum height in an urban environment.)

Width:   6 metres.

Growth rate: Slow

Form: Round-topped, fairly open, erect or semi-erect, sometimes crooked or willowy

Flower: Male flowers, in groups of 3 in the leaf axils, have 4-parted calyx and corolla and 24 stamens in 2 rows. Female flowers, solitary, have a large leaflike calyx, a 4-parted, pale-yellow corolla, 8 undeveloped stamens and oblate or rounded ovary bearing the style and stigma.
